Horsburgh Challenge 2011
-----

Got off the flight from Perth at 10:00pm last Friday night and went home for a shower and a few hours sleep.
Up at 3:30am and drove over to the SAF Yacht Club to clear immigration out and jumped onboard my mate Kiwi Keith's keelboat "Bella Rossa" and prepared for the race. The Horsburgh challenge did prove to be a challenge. We finished the race out to the 2 mile marker from the aptly named lighthouse and back in 10 1/2 hours. Here's some photos.

Lovely boat JMcarty. What make is she? Close-hauled the boom seems bent the wrong way and the main sail profile distorted. Is the kicker too tight or the main sheet too far forward along the boom? Or am I just talking through a part of my anatomy that I cannot see without a mirror
She's a 1976 Carvel type 32 designed and built in New Zealand, a one off steel hull. The boom is bent from a day out with only one person onboard trying to handle her. The main sail was also a bit wonky that day, the plastic clips holding it onto the mast runner were popping off that day and we were having problems with the outhaul too. From what we know, she only started racing about 6 months ago for the first time.

I have edited the above, somewhere through the haze, I had Cavalier in the depths of memory which was not correct. Carvel is a method of planking and in this case, plating. We don't know the precise design of this boat.
