The more direct communication the DAI has with such government agencies tasked with implementing diving safety the better!

It will save a lot of wasted time and a lot of divers' lives hopefully!

A warm welcome to the USCG representatives.

The challenge for them will be to accomplish what no one else within the USCG has been able to do since 1978 when the current unenforceable regulations were established.

Industry standard have evolved since the current 46CFR was writen regulations have not. There are some within the USCG who believe that the ever evolving “industry standards“ are sufficient to protect those that labor in the underwater workplace. There could be nothing further from reality. Industry standard are guide line to be followed by those that chose to. Regulations are a standard that must be met, followed and observed. And if violated can be enforced in a court of law.

Since 1998 the United States Coast Guard has been in the processes of updating their Commercial diving Standard, a standard they mention in the congressional record as being out of date, that was in 1998. If they were out of date and not consistent with industry practice fourteen years ago, what are they today?

A welcome aboard to the representatives from U.S. Coast Guard District Eight, Prevention Division in New Orleans and the U.S. Coast Guard, National Center of Expertise for Outer Continental Shelf Inspections in Morgan City. Let’s trust you can do what all those before you have been unable to.

An important and long coming step in the right direction for sure...however,what is the difference in a "non-voting position" and a "voting position" in regards to the "Executive Advisory Committee"?

From my point of view I would gladly give both of them (the USCG designates) voting privileges if they would vote to release the USCG Proposed rulemaking that has now been sequestered behind closed doors for fourteen years. Again from my perspective these two members of the USCG will do little more then add their names to the long list of USCG personnel that have committed themselves to do the right thing just before being transferred, retiring or moving on to some greater purpose.
