OGP Oxy Arc Recommend Pratice is PUBLISHED!!

The Divers Association International strongly supports the OGP Oxy Arc Recommend Practice and believes it should be adopted throughout the Commercial Diving Industry.

I want to give a Well Done and THANK YOU to the OGP for reaching out to working Divers, Supervisors, Rod Manufactures, Dive Consulates, and Trade Organizations to make this happen. When this is implemented & used it will save lives and rescue a fine but often misused tool from extinction.

We all know there is often a lot of talk and little action, to quote Mark Longstreath “When all is said and done, more is said than done......”! Not this time Mark.

My special thanks go to diver/supervisors Ken Elliott, Colin Woodward, Jess Sullivan, Dive Consultant Linden Leask of Oceans Technology, Rod Manufacture Greg Cain of Oxylance and Alan Helvey now retired. They gave whole heartedly to make this happen.

A nice step forward. What is telling here, is that finally an organisation has involved working divers in the development of a standard.

Lets hope this happens more often!

This is a very thorough document and I will definitely use it.

One thing I have always admired about OGP is that they always include the responsibilities of the contacts. Companies that hire divers are as accountable to ensure safety as diving companies. The way I always see it, is my job as a "contact" now is to make sure that when you come and dive in my plant I have removed all obstacles and have provided you with as safe an environment as possible. Your job is to follow, meet, or exceed standards and dive safely. Once you hit the water I can't see what you are doing, your supervisor keeps me appraised and I ask questions, but my job ensures that where you are diving is as controlled for risk as possible.

OGP Recommended Practice on UW Cutting definitely provides a consistent and thorough approach to training, management and practice.

Way to go OGP!
