Letter from the President

Welcome, I am proud to serve on the board of directors of the Divers Association International, we have a great TEAM. This organization purpose is set forth in our bylaws:

ARTICLE II

Purpose

DIVERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL is a Nonprofit Corporation formed for the sole purpose of promoting commercial diver safety through educating industry stakeholders on proper safety standards and regulations.

DIVERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL is independent from and not in any way affiliated with any diving contractor association, client association, or trade union. DIVERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL is not involved in negotiating diver pay or any other employment issues.

The sole purpose of DIVERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL is to educate industry groups, regulatory bodies, companies who contract diving services, and other industry participants involved in commercial diving to assist in defining and implementing standards for diver safety

.

DIVERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL is an association comprised of independent industry professionals involved in underwater operations providing workforce input on matters of safety.

The DIVERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL will assist and cooperate with all industry groups that have the goal of improving diver safety

.

We will stick to the above objectives, if you have other agenda take it elsewhere!

Membership

There are two types of membership offered, public and confidential membership. The confidential is for dive personnel who feel that being a public member may jeopardize their employment. Only public members will be an officer or represent the Divers Association International, with other interested organizations.

If you agree there is a need for our organization please join us in this effort.

My Brief History:

Experience

  • Forty-two years oil field and salvage diving experience, worldwide
  • Specialist in underwater construction and burning techniques
  • Involved in training divers for over thirty-six years
  • Diving consultant specializing in Oxy Arc Underwater Burning. Authored Oceans Technology: Oxy-Arc Underwater Burning Course
  • Member U.S.N. Underwater Demolition Teams 21 & 11 Member SEAL Team 1(1963 to 1969)

Summary Work History:

  • I went to work for Taylor Diving and Salvage the end of 1969 as a tender and broke out at Taylor Diving in 1970. I have also worked for Sub Sea Int., Comex UK, J. Ray McDermott, Tennessee Valley Authority, Global Divers, Martech, Schaefer Diving, Cal Dive, Superior Offshore and too many small companies, some of them very good, to name.

  • Taught rigging, open tanks, harbor and burning for one year at the College of Oceaneering

  • I authored “Oxy-Arc Underwater Burning Class”, a 90-minute training video and manual, for Oceans Technology.

  • If I were evaluating myself in this business it would be: Good diver that will leave the next diver well, burn with the best of them. I am proudest of having never bent or injured a diver. I have been running dive’s from 1969, when the tender did the job. I have been supervising since 1977.

Where Do I think the Divers Association will take us?

We will have a Seat at the Table when Regulations and Standards are written something we have never had. That is our first step and it is a big one.

John,

On behalf of the other board members, I would like to publicly acknowledge the time and effort you have put into this Association. It is exciting to think that we can make this industry safer, and that because of the Association the young divers starting out today may not have to lose friends, classmates and brothers to needless accidents.
