Safety Flashes Require Major Changes

We Need Real Time Safety Information!

The below was sent this week and is one of our major efforts. It is a SAFETY ISSUE!!

“Dear Sir/Madam,

On behalf of the Divers Association, I would like to ask for copies of the incident reports for all commercial diver fatalities that have occurred since the beginning of 2010.

We know that a number of fatalities have occurred, and yet virtually no information has been made available to the diving fraternity. This falls outside of the ethos that lessons learned must be shared so that additional accidents can be prevented from occurring under similar circumstances.

The Divers Association was formed to address matters of diver safety, and we would call upon you to assist in this end by providing what details can be shared in a preventative manner. We do not ask for names of companies, or of personnel involved, but we do want to try to stop the growing number of fatalities that have been happening over recent years.

Reports received will be published on the Association website, along with a copy of this request. We look forward to hearing from you, and hope that the diving industry will become a safer place for divers to work through your input.

China has already begun sharing Incident. http://www.thedivers...divers-hand-r48 "

We have to find away to get real time Accidents and Fatality Reports to working divers and supervisors. We do not expect and overnight solution but we do expect the organizations that have sway over our safety to respond and participate.

Those Organizations are as follows: National Governing Bodies: U. S. Coast Guard & OSHA, British HSE. Trade Organizations involved in diver safety word wide: IMCA, ADCI & OGP.

Please forward contacts for Governing Bodies in your area to: info@thediversassociation.com We need to make this a worldwide issue or nothing will be done.

To date we have had one response from the U.S Coast Guard:

“John,

Thanks for your note. I will look into this and see what the U.S. Coast Guard can provide.

Best Regards,”

We will keep you up to date on this effort, Board of Directors Divers Association International. This article is posted in Safety Ideas and Concerns Forum

The following quote has been attributed to Albert Einstein:

"The definition of insanity: when one repeats the same action over and over, each time expecting a different result"

Unfortunately, this is exactly what has been happening for years in the diving industry. We keep repeating the same mistakes over and over, hoping that this time, maybe, a diver won't be killed. As Einstein stated; it is insanity. It is time for the insanity; the mindless repetition of incidents and accidents, to stop. We can only make it stop by sharing information. ADCI's Mission Statement is: "Safety Through Education". If indeed that is what they stand for, we will see them share information to help ensure that more divers do not needlessly die. And this goes beyond ADCI; IMCA must do the same, as do the regulatory bodies of the various governments, or their message will be loud and clear: "we don't care about divers' lives"

Just Recivied from United States Coast Guard:

"John,

In speaking with our casualty data analysts, we should be able to put the requested data together within 30 days. Thanks for this request and we look forward to discussing this with you.

Rgds,"

I am starting to put together OE from Nuclear. It's a tall order but I put it on my to-do list starting Monday.

John, I asked in the link to the Chile info if we have a way of discerning fatalities from accidents, or if those are all fatalities?
